Why Networking and Asking for Help Fueled My Creative Journey
Lets go back in time to August 2022. At this point I was still early on in my painting career and had “ideas” about “facilitating” creative experiences. Up until this point I had only hosted dinner parties at my LA apartment where I would cook and then we would all paint together. I knew I needed to design my own events in case an opportunity came up. I would take very long walks trying to get those creative juices flowing in the hopes that these a-ha ideas would just come out of the sidewalk and I would walk right into it. But that wasn’t the case.
I knew that I needed to look elsewhere to collect real advice. I did some online research but it wasn’t clicking. Nothing stuck out to me. So I had to continue.
And then one day it hit me.
My goal is trying to lead creative experiences for companies; whether they are for events or for team building that was the arena I wanted to get into. And if I could speak to people who work in those places then I might get some leads on events they like, dislike, and learn about trends.
Why go online when I could call 20+ of my friends?
So you know what…that was exactly what I did. I reached out to all those friends, scheduled individual interviews, and spent weeks collecting super valuable data, insights, and opinions on whats missing from corporate team building and how my creative ideas could fit in well.
This experience truly showed me that we shouldn’t try to do everything ourselves. Asking for help and advice is challenging, but when its with people you know that fear is overshadowed by support.
As I begin my journey to lead creative experiences in NYC, I am so grateful I reached out and asked for advice.
Leverage your network. You never know what could come from it.
