Ditch the Dull: How Art Can Revitalize Your Company’s Events
Close your eyes and think about the last company event you attended. What’s in the room with you? Let me guess: coworkers standing in small circles, a bar on each side serving drinks, a radio hit playlist playing in the background, a long buffet table with appetizers, and people on their phones—either in the corner or even in the middle of the room.
Sounds familiar, right? I worked in the business world for 15 years and remember that vibe. At these events, you often end up standing in circles, drinking, and either talking about work or the weekend weather forecast.
Maybe your company added a special twist to this year’s event. There might be a photo booth with classic props you’ve seen at every wedding, a magician (which I have seen and can confirm is objectively entertaining), or an external keynote speaker trying to connect their recent book to your mission statement.
My point is, many corporate events feel the same, and their value is often questionable.
Something is missing—something that provides a conversation starter, a break from the usual structure, and, most importantly, something engaging to do.
Imagine a wall lined with a grid of small canvases. A table full of paints and brushes is laid out in front of you, along with a sign that provides simple instructions:
Grab a brush.
Put paint on it.
Add whatever you like to one, two, or even all of the canvases.
On your way out, take one off the wall and bring it with you (to-go bags provided below).
Wouldn’t this add a new flavor to the corporate events you’re used to?
For those tired of standing in circles making forced conversation, or those intimidated by large group settings—wouldn’t it be exciting to know there’s more to do than just drink?
