BrushWork - Justworks
I have to kick off this post with the fact that I hosted a BrushWork event at a company named Justworks. Just from a sheer naming standpoint I had a great feeling about this 60 mins and it sure did deliver.
This was the end of an all day department meeting so to me I knew the attendees would be tired and would need a restorative and fun experience. That inspired me to include a sketching section that inspired a room of laughter. The specific exercise was asking attendees to sketch a portrait of the person across from them but they couldn’t look down at the paper. By adjusting that perception, the immediate reaction is pure laughter since you most likely have never done it before. To me this emphasizes a core part of creativity…its about the experience and not the result.
Once the sketching was done we moved on to the prompts and that is when the laughter took a back seat to fun conversations and focused artists. Walking around the room I could sense the relaxation and restorative vibes from an all day meeting. I also love walking around BrushWorks and seeing the variety in each unique piece of art.
I think everyone in the room enjoyed putting down their phone and picking up a brush!
